What Kind Of Window Treatments Should I Buy?

One of the biggest questions we get asked is “What kind of window treatments should I buy?”
A lot of people don’t know what type of window covering they want. Or they simply don’t know what is available.
The first question to ask yourself is, “Why do I want to cover that window?” You should ask yourself that question for every window you are covering.
The reasons for covering your bedroom window will be different than the reasons for covering the window in the family room.
The 3 Main Reasons to Purchase a Window Treatment
- You want to control who can see into your home from outside (i.e. privacy).
- You want to control the amount of heat exchange that passes through your windows.
- You want to control the amount of light entering the home from the outside.
Years ago, it was considered a “standard practice” to put the same type of window treatment in every room. So if you had plantation shutters downstairs on the front of the house, it was expected that you would have plantation shutters on the back of the house.
Depending on your primary reason for purchasing a window treatment, there are some products that will suit your needs better than others.
For instance, if you want nighttime privacy, then a solar screen shade is not the best choice for you.
The size, type, or shape of a window may dictate what product you need. If you have a large sliding door, then a vertical blind may work for you, but there are other options as well.
