How Much Difference Can One Inch Make?
When it comes to selecting the best configuration for your plantation shutters, there are several things you need to keep in mind.
First off, is it possible to install the shutters INSIDE the window casing or do they need to be installed OUTSIDE or in front of the window molding?
Secondly, what type of frame do you want or need to go around the shutter panels?
Lastly, how much “view-thru” do you want?
What is “view-thru?”
View-thru is determined by the space between the shutter slats (or louvers). The greater the spacing, the easier it is to see out through the shutter and out the window.
This picture shows the view-thru on the same window with shutters that use 2-1/2″ louvers (the most common), 3-1/2″ louvers (gaining in popularity), and 4-1/2″ louvers (not quite as commonly used).
So if you know which size (or sizes) will work best in your window you can make an informed decision on which style to purchase. And your installer will thank you for not trying to squeeze something into a space that may not fit.
